I’ve never been to New York City before. It’s been number 1 on my to-do list since moving to America 3 years ago, and this past week was the first time I finally got around to getting there. I’ve been kicking myself ever since that I didn’t make the effort to go earlier…now I only have 1 1/2 years left to venture back to this beautiful city.
If you’ve seen my NYC Day 1 Style post, then you’ll know that I kind of failed as a fashion blogger in my first day in the city. My outfit wasn’t as ‘on-point’ as I had hoped it would be, and I ended up with barely any pictures (or blog-worthy style ones anyway).
I also kind of failed as a travel/life blogger too. Clearly it was a good trip all around.
But that’s the thing. It was a good trip. It was a great trip. I had the best time, I’m officially in love with the city and my first day was a huge success. And I know this in part, because I don’t actually have that many (awesome) pictures.
Now this may sound counter-intuitive, particularly coming from a seemingly new blogger, but bear with me.
I love taking photos; I love being able to capture certain moments or beautiful places, buildings and things I see and remember them forever. However, I also love enjoying my surroundings and taking everything in through my eyes, and not through the lens on my phone.
I did come away with some photos from the day, but they were more spur of the moment “wow this is cool, I want a picture to remember this” pictures, and not “oh hold on, this is perfect for my blog, let me spend 5 minutes getting the angle, lighting and focus just right”. I think both photo-taking approaches are
completely valid, and I love to indulge in both. But this time, on my first day in NYC, I was too overwhelmed and too excited to stop to think about my blog.
So I apologize for neglecting you. I was out enjoying the greatest city in the world.
However, I would still like to share my experience with you. So here’s a collection of my favourite pictures and moments from my first day in the Big Apple. Hopefully they reflect exactly how majestic this city is, and how much I love it.
I’d love to hear about your favourite places or adventures in New York. I definitely plan on going back in the not-to-distant future and would love some recommendations!
